More OEMs plan reshoring investments despite tariff, cost uncertainty
According to the 2026 Reshoring Survey report by Reshoring Initiative and Regions Recruiting, 36% of OEM respondents this year said they have reshored or are actively reshoring, up from 29% last year. Despite tariff uncertainty worrying most companies, 63% of OEMs still plan to invest capital in reshoring or domestic expansion.
GE Appliances investing $1B to shift production from Mexico to Kentucky
GE Appliances announced it will invest $1 billion in Louisville, Kentucky, to expand its laundry product production lines and transfer some production capacity from Mexico to the United States. This move is part of its $3 billion U.S. manufacturing investment pledged last year.
SK Hynix, Stellantis, Innio and others announce manufacturing investments
In August 2026, the manufacturing investment boom continued to heat up. In addition to Micron, Lam Research, Rolls-Royce, and Amkor, six companies including SK Hynix, Stellantis, DeltaX, Genentech, Innio, and Niron Magnetics announced major investments covering semiconductors, automotive, battery energy storage, biopharmaceuticals, and rare-earth permanent magnets, with total investments exceeding several billion dollars.
Chobani to spend $1.2B to buy and invest in Pennsylvania plant
Chobani plans to invest $1.2 billion to acquire and expand a plant in Allentown, Pennsylvania, formerly owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, with a transaction amount of $125 million. The new plant will produce high-protein, low-sugar milk and support the company's over $4 billion investment plan in its U.S. manufacturing network.

Tesla looks to build $10B solar cell manufacturing site in Texas
Tesla, Inc. has submitted a proposal to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts to invest $10.1 billion in a solar cell and module manufacturing facility near Houston, dubbed Project Crystal Sun. The project, filed on Aug. 6, would create 9,712 full-time jobs and support over 1,000 construction jobs. If incentives are secured, construction could begin this year with operations targeted for Q1 2029. The facility is part of Elon Musk's broader plan to build 100 GW of annual U.S. solar manufacturing capacity, alongside SpaceX's separate solar factory efforts.

Bristol Myers Squibb will build a $2.3 billion high-tech manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas, producing small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates. The 600,000-square-foot facility, expected to create 500 jobs, is part of a broader $40 billion U.S. investment plan through 2030.
Big Ass Fans maker to acquire Ebm-Papst for $5.4B
Madison Air Solutions announced a $5.4 billion agreement to acquire Ebm-Papst, a Germany-based HVAC manufacturer. The deal is expected to close by end of 2026, with Ebm-Papst projected to generate $2.8 billion in revenue and $343 million in adjusted EBITDA in 2026.
SpaceX to invest $16.8B on first phase of Terafab project
SpaceX announced on Thursday that it will invest $16.8 billion in the first phase of its Terafab semiconductor manufacturing project in Grimes County, Texas. The project covers 100 million square feet and, once completed, will produce chips for both SpaceX and Tesla. Construction of the first phase is scheduled to begin this year and is expected to create 3,000 jobs. SpaceX has received $30 million in "deal-closing" incentive funds from the Texas Enterprise Fund.
